Very few, I think. Although the ballot is created by six thousand--that only sounds like hyperbole--official "nominators," anyone can participate in the on-line voting for the winners. But the site (www.thequills.org) does not give the number of how many people actually vote so I'm guessing it's low.
I've been the editor in chief of The Horn Book, Inc, since 1996; previously editor of The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books and a children's and young adult librarian. Received my M.A. in library science from the University of Chicago in 1982 and a B.A. from Pitzer College in 1978.

The Quill Awards are indeed unfathomable. Who votes for these things?
