ALA 2011

As I sit here feeling like Gomer Pyle ("Surprise, surprise, surprise!"), you can take a look at our ALA Awards page, listing all of the winners announced yesterday and, where available, Horn Book reviews of the winning titles.

I was watching the twitter feed for the announcements yesterday. As far as I could tell, they were relaying the winners of the Newbery and the Printz, but not the honor books. Did I just miss them? I finally got some of the titles from Booksmugglers. The first complete list I saw was on the Heavy Medal Blog. I feel the ALA is dropping the ball. Am I unreasonable? Is the Wait Wait Who Won Frenzy supposed to be part of the fun?

The mainstream press hardly seems to have mentioned the prizes. Monica Edinger points out that the winners weren't on the Today Show as they have been in the past. The New York Times didn't even publish the titles of the Printz prize winners. Does anyone outside of librarians care who won?
